Default enthusiast's color choice

u guys ever notice how much the COLOR of a car affects its maintenence?

for some reason i tend to see ALOT of shiny black/white/red cars with generous layers of wax, squeaky clean windows, and tire shine. (just like my car )

yet ive NEVER seen a beige car detailed like that.
color says alot eh?

discuss.

People who buy beige, battleship gray, or similar color can't possibly care that much about appearance, IMO. I believe that they generally received a great deal off the lot - on a car that nobody else wanted. Alot depends on the type of vehicle - not many Ford Explorers to be proud of, and it shows!

I cant disagree more with the above statement...its all about the individual and their preferences. I too am an enthusiast, and I specifically chose the titanium grey color. In fact, when I told the delership what options I wanted, the provided me with 2 cars from another delaership of theirs...one red, one titanium. The red was fantastic, but I thought the titanium looked like a more high-end, classy color than the red...so thats what I got. And for the record, she is always clean and her wheels are always shiny!!

Well, there's a huge difference between "battleship gray" and Titanium gray! I'm referring to the non-metallic, drab colors like plain gray. Sin6racer mentioned beige - now THAT's a color only a colorblind person might prefer (or someone who just doesn't care). Have you ever noticed that many smokers' cars are not well kept? I think that is more than a coincidence.

My vehicle consumed 1.3L in its first 6,000 km with no evidence of leaks. In its next 1,500 km, it consumed about a third of a litre. When I purchased the vehicle, I checked and the oil was full. My dealer has started an oil consumption history. To my absolute horror, my dealer claims that it is normal for the 3 to consume a litre every 2,000 to 3,000 km. This will turn out to be a bitter battle.

Unfortunately, this is the case with most manufacturers. GM will replace piston rings in a Corvette engine if oil usage exceeds one quart in 800 miles. THAT'S alot of oil!

I would bet that this level of oil consumption far exceeds EPA emissions.

I don't think they check for oil emissions - hydrocarbons (unburned fuel) and NOX are the biggies.
