Default Engine noise

2007 Mazda 3 making a ticking noise from the engine. Has been doing it for 4 days now. The car was so quiet at first, could not even tell it was on. That lasted about 2 months. Had it for almost three years now with under 16,000 miles (yes, I know that is HELLA low) Anyones car still quiet? Still under warranty till January so I am going to have it checked out.

sounds like just normal valve ticking if its quiet, if you think its too loud then you should make sure your oil is at the proper level. When checking your oil make sure your on a flat level surface, start the car for a little then let it cool so that its warm, check oil.

My 08 does the same thing, it's done it since it was new.

My '07 never made any ticking noises, was very quiet.

And you say it started 4 days ago, if your oil level is OK that sounds like a lifter problem. It could be some minor debris or something that will go away, but maybe not.

With the car still being under warranty, get it checked out. Even if the dealer say it is "normal", if it gets worse later or something completely goes south after the warranty is up, you'll have a much better leg to stand on if you can show it documented as a concern while the car was still under warranty.

Checked the oil, that is fine. The noise seems to be coming from the passenger side of the engine, maybe, I mean maybe near the front pass. wheel. It gets louder and louder the more I gas on it. At idle, I can still hear it, but faintly. Also, when I turned the car on yesterday, I heard a "pisssss'' noise, like something was stuck. It took a while to stop, around 4 seconds. Trying to set an appointment at the stealership, but noone answering calls. Hope its something covered under warranty.

Exhaust leaks can produce a ticking noise.

nothing like that. Started happening days ago, same time it started raining and hitting 42 degrees at night. Maybe that has something to do with it. Ticking noises are ok with me, but with it getting louder as I accelerate is not. It actually turns into a bit of a squeal with ticking sound. Afraid something is stuck somewhere. Stealership appt. this Thurs.

hmm its kinda hard tryin to diagnose something you cant see in real life. i cant think of anything that would have a squealing sound as it gets louder that starts out as a ticking noise, maybe a locked a/c clutch burning up

before this happened, i did smell something burning, but then the smell went away within a few secs. this just could of been something outside tho, since everyone had their fireplace on. i could smell burning wood everywhere, it was so cold. and this is in CA-Bay Area.

Got the car back yesterday. problem not fixed, mechanic claims he took it for a 3 mile drive with the service advisor and didnt hear anything...bullssss. He didnt even go 1 mile (mileage at dropoff = 15,474, at pickup = 15,474). I bet he turned on the car, gassed it a bit, and said nothing is wrong. I carpool to work with 2 other guys and they hear it. My gf hears it too. How the hell the ''specialist" not? Pretty sure its because the car is still under warranty, meaning the mechanics doesnt get any extra pay or bonuses for working on my car. Gonna bring it back Monday.
