Unhappy Engine Code: PO 762 Shift Solenoid C Stuck

I have a Mazda 3 hatchback. And this is the code I am getting, besides the engine misfiring. Should I get another transmission? Or get this repaired and hope it will be fine from now on?? Help Mazda Family!

First, take a look at your transmission fluid color off the dip stick:

Pink=indicates a pretty healthy transmission (except for your problem)
Brown with a burnt smell=excessive varnish and at sometime an overheated transmission (may be the cause of your problem). Try changing transmission fluid with OEM recommended fluid.
Metal color= metal and clutch debris caused by a slipping problem or various clutch or band wear. Overhaul time.

Hope for the best...virg.

That is the scary thing Tracker, there are so many places "not" to go to. After all that, my mechanic recommended that I just get another trans. So I got a used one with a year warranty. Will get it installed this Tuesday. Let you know how it does after a few days.

Thanks Virgil, will do that after the new "used" transmission I bought goes in Tuesday. Of course my mechanic will definitely take a look at that as well. He recommended I get another one because of the possibility of replacing the bad solenoid, and then everything else could be in a state of going in the same direction. So hopefully after this Tuesday coming up, my 3 will be back patrolling the streets again. I need it badly because my wife's CX-9 is getting some serious use.

Yes, the color of the transmission fluid applies to all automatics no matter what their age. I would suspect that your "used" transmission will have had a fluid change.

In some of the later model cars and trucks, the transmissions have no dip stick since the expected "no service" interval is 10 years or over 120,000 miles. These transmissions use synthetic fluid as do all modern automatics. Synthetics will triple the normal change out time, thus the extended service period.
