I know opinions on tires vary from person to person, but I am so on the fence about replacing the GSAs. I just bought a 3 5dr Auto, am not an "enthusiast" (yet), drive on the conservative side, and live in Maryland. On one hand I feel like shelling out another 600 or so just after I bought a car is a waste, on the other hand 600 to protect the investment of the car is not a bad idea. Thoughts appreciated.

Do you need to replace the RS-As? No, especially if you only drive when the roads are either dry or simply wet (as opposed to snow, sleet, slush, or ice covered). That said, these tires are known problems when slippery conditions are encountered. I bought my Mazda3 in mid November and within days discovered how diabolical the car was to deal with wheneven the barest amount of snow was covering the road. I promptly ordered a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires and had them mounted on my car when there was only 714 miles on the clock. The differerence in how the car handles with the new tires (even on dry pavement) is astounding.

The good news for RS-A owners (sort of) is that should you be able to nurse the car through your first winter, all reports are that they wear out so fast that you most likely will have already bought new rubber by the second winter.

It is highly advisable to replace all four tires at the same time. I've driven cars with different sets of tires front versus rear, and the handling can be seriously compromised when the rears have different tires than the fronts.

 

They are certainly not good tires but, you've already paid for them when you bought the car. It's not like they are going to blow apart or all of a sudden fly off the road. Don't drive like an idiot with them. I've driven them in one winter storm and although not great, it was manageable. I have 15k on mine so far.

 

This is the first winter on mine as well. I've pretty much decided to tough it out for the rest of the season and buy a better set before next winter. Cleveland is not kind to crappy tires, but I don't have a long commute (~4 miles) and think I handle the driving pretty well.

I would use the tires you have, at least get your monies worth or try to sell them to someone else. Those tires do suck but most manufactures do not spend a lot of money for GOOD tires. I have 28k on my Good Years and I already ordered the Yokohama 520. Can wait to see the difference.
