Default Dilemma....

Due to money issues I have two choices. Keep my 3 and have maybe 20-30 bucks a week for gas/money/other expenses, or trade in/sell the car. Im most likely going to sell it or just have someone take over the payments. Can I just give the car back to the dealer and maybe get a couple bucks for it (Its not paid off yet either)? lol

$20-$30 bucks? Not worth it for what it will do to your credit rating, and perhaps your self-esteem.

When I was younger... mid-30's in my case, and buying equipment for my last band, I ate cheaply. I bought a lot of PB'n'J and frozen pizzas and that's how I paid for much of what was important to me at the time.
The main difference is that I still have the guitars, drums stands and microphones that I bought then and no doubt will until the day I die. Some of them will/have increased in "perceived" value.

If I was in your shoes, I would not LOL.

Tell us more about your car (what model year, details about exactly what you own, mileage, condition), and how much you owe. Can't give wise advice without more facts. You can't just "give back" your car. There is a need to compute your 3's market value, and compare it to what you owe.

Also, if you sell or give back your 3, how will you transport yourself? You live near a bus stop? No shame in the bus, not at this point in time.

ps. yup, V1 is an old gasser.

I sold my 3 (it was paid off) last year for just under $11K andpaidcash fora 2000 Taurus for $4200. Insurance on the 3 was ~$1200/year, the Taurus is $400/year. I took a small hit on the mileage (went from ~29 mpg avg to ~25mpg avg)

If you only have that much left over after your car, then IMO your car is taking up too much of your budget. In the end it's just a car. (I drove a $700 car for 4 years through college.....it wasn't cool, but was better than riding a bike.)

Nothing....but keep in mind I live in "Sunny" Michigan. Bike travel isn't really a good answer most of the year and the Detroit area isn't exactly set up for bicycle commuting (no bike lanes, etc.)
