Default CX-5 to Mazda3 ?

I have a 2014 CX-5 Touring (which we bought in 2016). 50K miles. Passed annual state cert. Still, needs tires, brakes & a tune-up (and maybe shocks), but in otherwise decent shape. Enough scratches & pockmarks that I fear no grocery store parking lot.

Considering downsizing to a more recent AWD Mazda3 hatchback.

Anyone done it and pleased by the change? Or vice-versa?

The 2019 and newer hatchback has extremely limited rear visibility. The 2018 and prior was better in this regard.

I have not owned a CX5 but do have a couple of 3s.

I think you will find a lot of similarity to your CX-30. The 3 will be a more dynamic drive (the 2018 and prior more so and the nonAWD also more so).

If you don’t need the space or height and are comfortable with the rear visibility, you should love the 3.

You may want to look at the CX-30. I think it costs a little less than a 3 hatchback, is about the same size overall and bigger inside and does not have the rear visibility issue.

The 3 and CX-30 are great cars. I wouldn’t drive anything else.

Funny. I've driven a CX-30, and prefer my CX-5. But the 3 is definitely a more spirited ride.

I can understand liking your CX-5 better, it is a great vehicle.

Why do you think a switch from the CX-5 to the 3 would be better than the CX-5 to the CX-30?

I am thinking about trading in my 19 3 for a CX-30 turbo next year and would like to hear your thoughts.

I did NOT like the road feel of the 30. Prefer the CX-5. I *do* like driving the 3.

At this point in my life, I just need a vehicle to efficiently get me to/from work (smaller/more responsive is better), and to go cycling/kayaking (i.e. - accept a hitch receiver for our bike rack).

Now that I commute by car (used to be by bicycle), I would really prefer a lighter vehicle. (My wife (understandably) doesn't always let me drive her Z3, and anyway, that's not a good vehicle for inclement weather.)
