Coolant Temperature Sensor

My Mazda 3 Sport 2.2 diesel with the MZR-CD engine struggles to start when the engine is up to temperature. I have been told it could be the coolant temperature sensor but I am unable to find it. Does anybody know the location of it?

Looking at poor diagrams, its somewhere between the thermostat & fuel rail area.
