CEL light came on in my 2.3 and I can't retrieve a code nor clear the light with my OBDII reader. All I get when I try to read or clear the code is "ERR".

Any help is MUCH appreciated. I prefer to have half an idea of what the CEL is about before dragging my lazy butt to the dealer.

Is your key in the ignition position with the engine off?

I've never had trouble reading codes before.

 

what kinda OBDII reader do u have, cuz if its the good one it might need an update, i know i had to

 

Ok I found out that my 2006 2.3 Sedan uses CAN-OBD2 and my reader is too old for CAN. But I did check the gas cap and duh, it was loose so I cleared the code by unhooking the battery and the light hasn't come back on. Guess I will need a new reader in the future since I can't update this model.

Anyone need a non CAN code reader ? Cheap ?
