Car stalling? Knocking?
o and i found out that stalling or w/e i was worried about. The car..any car in that matter does that when its in a high gear and you step on the pedal too hard at a low RPM to make it go, so i was right, i was flooding the engine with gas trying to make it go when it was only at like 1000-1500rpm, theres no stalling no knocking no nothing its perfectly fine its just me being paranoid about this car.

i havn't had too many problems its just that ive never owned a manual before so maybe its just me and thats how the car is...i havn't done anything except for ground TB, Intake, advance timing. And the timing seemed to be already advanced from the factory so i brought it down prob 1-2 more degrees....maybe its just me being really paranoid about this car. Its the first manual ive bought and like. I baby this car like no tomorrow...due for the first oil change soon!

I have a 2.3 mazda 3 2007S-touring 5 spd and I used to have that problem. from my experience, when going like 5 mphs, and im in neutral, the car wouldn't let me go back into 1st unless i rev matched it a little bit (sometimes it would let me just put it into gear).And if i couldn't do that then i would just shift it to 2nd and then balance it out until it catches. If you don't balance it, your car will start to shake and stuff which i think is bad for the car because it is like you're depriving the engine of gas lol. People might say i'm wasting gas, but it's better than being a sitting duck at 5 mphs.
btw don't rev hella high. I save way more gas just shifting around 3-3.5k rpms. I would think since there's more heat and work that your engine needs to produce that it'll burn your gas up. and with 100+ dollars per barrel that is something we should all savor.
my tank lasts me a little over 2 weeks, but then again i don't drive too far either.
i drive a lot i already have 5000 miles on my car....TB is Throttle Body, if you ground the TB you'll get better response and you wont have to match the RPM because it has better response and stays there BUT i never had to do that even before i did mods to it. A full tank lasts me a week i fill up every friday or saturday.
i am extremely new here and just looking on the forums to find out about problems/reviews and such on the 3. Question though. Doesn't the ECM/PCM control the timing electronically with aid of the knock sensor/load/O2 sensor/coolant temp sensor and the AI Sensor? I know that i've been out of the automotive technician field for a little while but even back then most cars were electronically controlled. Is the 3 that outdated on it's fuel management system?
If it is controlled electronically, the only way to "increase" timing would be to fool the ECM/PCM into thinking that it needs to advance timing. Manually advancing the timing would only increase timing while the system is in open loop or closed(can't remember) basically while it is cold.

By moving the crank sensor down (counter-clockwise, iirc)the engine and ECU don't know that it's not where itwas before.As long as you stay out of the knock sensor you should feel the effects of advanced timing.
It's not a lot... only a few degrees and the virtual advance curve (we are talking modern electronics here [8D]) remains the same. So in affect, you are fooling the ECU, cause it doesn't know "TDC" isn't where TDC was before.
