I understand and I feel your pain. Why do you think I modded my stock box instead of "buying" an intake?

Are you planning to race your car? If it's primarily astreet car you'd be wasting your money on a "hp" intake cause chances are you wouldn't be in the RPM range that often or long enough for it to be effective.
I know nothing about smr, but from what I've read, the Typhoons are an excellent choice... and expensive.
Do some searches and read up. Try to find dyno testing sheets. That'll tell you where it works the best w/a stock engine.

a bump in gas mileage would be nice too, does the typhoon improve your mpg noticably?

I try not to assume ANYTHING (mod) will improve mileage with this car. With electronic in the mix, imoit's harder to judge what will affect what else. Not like a distributor/ignition/timing/carb change of pre ECUed cars.
Of the performance "improvements" I've done to mine, the power band has changed... sometimes for the better, sometimes not, but the mileage has basically remained consistant.
Changing to synthetic oil seems to have helped... but just a bit. I "seem" to be getting better mileage this summer using the A/C than I did last summer. (26-28 vs 24-25) I've also taken to put in steraight 87 again where as before, and afterMonzsta's timing mod, was mixing grades. So who's to say what the cause/affect is.
