2013 mazda 3 oil thread
Hi everyone, my name is Joe and I have a large knowledge of Saabs I currently maintain 7. My boyfriend has a 2013 Mazda 3 auto sedan and I was wondering what people are using for oil? I know the factory dealer is using a semi synthetic oil. But I would like to switch the car to full synthetic Mobil one. What do people run for oil and what is suggested within the Mazda community. I have found the dealers to be zero help. I know with Saabs you want to run full synthetic all the time for the turbo.
Thanks for all your help in advance ill be doing more research on places people buy genuine parts from? and auto trans service intervals and recommended fluid types? I normally do 30-40k fluid changes on my Saabs ( prob a tad excessive)

As far as I know, all SkyActiv engines in the Mazda3 have required full 0W-20 synthetic. The Mazda SkyActiv branded 0W-20 is a special full synthetic high molybdenum content oil, and the one which I use in our Mazda3. Personally I don't believe anybody should be running even a semi-synthetic in any of the SkyActiv engines.

It looks like the dealer just put in Castrol professional 0w-20
i personally like mobil1 is there any specific reason they would use the special oil you speak of😬?
I included the vin maybe that will decode what engine this car has.

Per the Owner's Manual of our Mazda3, Mazda recommends either the Mazda branded 0W-20 or Castrol 0W-20; the three Mazda dealerships in our area use exclusively one of these two oils. FWIW, I too am a fan of Mobil 1, however, both of my Hondas consume considerably less oil when using Castrol Syntec 0W-20 versus Mobil 1 0W-20, so I use Castrol.
