Hello! To change the fuel pump on the 2011 model, I only need to take out the back seat cushion, right? In the service manual it looks like you take out the cushion and can just unscrew the old fuel pump and install a new one.
Remove rear seat cushion,
Remove 4 screw from metal cover,
Undo very large plastic nuts ( make sure fuel level is less than 1/2 )
Remove fuel pump housing/assembly.
If you've bought just a aftermarket pump then you need to dismantle the plastic housing to swap pumps over.

Hi, sorry to bump this thread back. I am about to change the fuel pump(the Fuel Sending Unit not working because the digital gas gauge shows empty when the tank is not empty) on my 2010 Mazda 3 GT.
I am looking at the Mazda 3 Service Manual for fuel pump removal/installation doc, it does not show any "very large plastic nuts" in the diagram. Can you please clarify.
Which tool would I use to remove the "very large plastic nuts"?
Also, in the Mazda 3 Service manual step 10. Remove the order indicated in the table. <------ I do not understand the order in the table, what does 1.5--2.6 N.m (16--26kgf.cm, 14--23in.lbf) mean?
thanks
thanks.

Obviously, in some markets the fuel pump assembly is held in with a large plastic nut, & others use a metal retainer ring ( set plate) held in place with screws ( as per your manual )

Australian spec fuel pump assembly.
Ahhhh...thank you. I am in the Canadian market.
1. Quick release connector <------ can you tell me which quick release type/method(Type A, B or C?) they used with the fuel hose to the pump?
Not sure on connectors, I just tackle them as they turn up.
thanks. I just wanted to gather as much knowledge before I head to the junkyard so that I don't sit there for hours figuring things out or breaking things while dismantling the part.
can the fuel pump be changed from above without problem?

did you have to lower the gas tank? Or can the fuel pump be changed from above without any problem?
