Default 2006 Mazda 3 - I Sedan, Manual

Hey guys,

I have three questions. I bought my 3 three weeks ago, and I have noticed a couple of things that I'd like to know if they are normal.

When I rev the engine in neutral, I can hear a little rattle as the RPM's come back down. I also hear this when I am taking off from a stopped position. It is faint, but noticeable if the a/c and radio are off. I wondered if perhaps there is a small exhaust leak, but my wife seems to think it has sounded that way since we bought it.

I noticed when cruising at around 75-80 mph that a faint high-pitched hum can sometimes can be heard. I think that it may have to do with the a/c, but my wife doesn't even hear it, and the a/c is working perfectly. I also hear some road noise -- the engine sounds like it could use a 6th gear. Anyone else experiencing these sounds?

Lastly, I had a flat tire a week ago. The dealer said that the warranty would not cover it. I had to pay $85 for a new Toyo. Does this sound correct?

Thanks!

The only question i can somewhat help you with is the flat tire, i had two flat ones but that was due to excess tire wear and the dealer said they do not cover tire wear, but $85 for a tire replacement that sounds right but does that include fittment and labor costs?

Thanks - The $85 was for the tire only from the dealer. I had it fitted at a local shop for $10. I checked the Toyo warranty, in addition to the Mazda warranty, and it appears that I am just out of luck. I am curious if anyone has noticed the other issues that I brought up, though.

Hi! I have a 2005 Mazda 3s. I think I know what you mean by the high-pitched hum. I hear it sometimes, too; it sounds like something being turned on and off in an unpredictable manner. It doesn't sound like something's broken, but I'm still curious what exactly it is.

Yo... guess what.....i got exactly the same freakin noise. This high pitched hum/whine/ buzz/ whistling noise happens at 80mph and above. My mazda3i is only a month old with 1700 miles. This buzz coming from the center console area, it annoys the hell out of me if i cruise above 80(radio and A/C off). i took it to the dealer yesterday and they told me they probably wouldn't be able to duplicate this problem due to the speed limit and i wasn't supposed to drive over the speed limit BS. They charged me 49$ for labor even though they didn't do jacksh!t. i've email the service manager with my concern and the next step is to write MazdaUSA. .....anyone with a suggestion will be greatly appreiciated.

does this noise above 80mph sound like gear whine? ive started noticing a little bit of gear whine in my 2004 3s with 38,000 miles on it while im in third gear 2500rpm or above, during slow to moderate acceleration. i might not be able to notice the noise at the higher speeds though because my exhaust system and cai could drown out the sound.

no....it sounds more like a highpitch buzz just like those old GM key in ignition/door ajar alarm buzz. But this noise is more high pitched. I don't think its a gear whine either. It happens only at over 80-85mph and its stops when i hit 100. My 3 doesn't want to go any faster than 100 no matter how hard i try. It has no problem hitting 100 though. My 00 jetta vr6 had no trouble hitting 120 easily.
