Default 2.0-2.3

I'm new here and I hope you can help me. A friend of mine was going to rebuild his 2.3 liter in his 06 Mazda 3s, but decided to get a new car instead. What I need to know is can I use the crank, connecting rods and pistons from a 2.3 in my 2.0 liter block in my 07 Mazda 3i? If I can he will sell me all of the parts he bought for his 2.3 for half price.

I rather doubt what you're suggesting will work. That said, I'm thinking "Why bother?" It will cost far less to simply source a 2.5 liter Ford Duratec and put it in your car; you'll end up with a more powerful and more reliable engine at less cost.

As I understand it, pretty much all 2.5 Duratec engine engines will work as they are basically a much upgraded Mazda 2.3; you simply move the manifolds and sensors from your engine to the Duratec and plug it in. There are numerous threads on 2.0 to 2.5 and 2.3 to 2.5 conversions over here: https://www.mazda3forums.com
