Question Need Help with Old Mazda 2 Window Repair that went bad

I'm trying to help someone with an old Mazda 2 that they're planning to give away. The car has a window that stopped working, and unfortunately, I think I made things worse rather than better.

Here’s the situation: initially, both the driver's window and the rear window behind it weren’t working, while the other two windows were fine. I thought it might require replacing the mechanism, or perhaps just cleaning the contacts and making a simpler repair, so I removed the mechanism to diagnose it at home.

However, after disconnecting the mechanism, I needed to reconnect it briefly and may have mistakenly reversed the cables, causing something to burn out, as now none of the windows work...

I tested the fuse (the purple one) and it was fine, which makes me think there might be another fuse along the way that I missed.

Anyway, this isn’t a car worth spending too much money on for repairs, and the person receiving it doesn't have the money for that, so I’m trying to find a DIY solution (meaning, repairing and replacing parts myself).

I'd appreciate any advice or simple guidance from those who can help. 🙏

In the pictures:
  • The button mechanism
  • The door after disassembly
  • The winroller box, which I assume is the "brain." It looks slightly rusty, but I couldn’t find a replacement online.
  • Some box, which I suspect might contain another fuse.
I'm truly clueless with these things, but I have good hands and can do any task you advise me to do and guide me through. 😉

Thank you

sounds frustrating! I'm wondering if there's a central locking module that might also control the windows? Not sure about Mazda 2s specifically, but some cars have that. Could be worth investigating if nothing else works.

ok, a little update. I connected everything again, and suddenly the 2 passengers' window returned to work agai.
My question now is whether there is an option to download the window manually??

well, whatever that winroller is, it's an aftermarket part that was horribly spliced into the factory wiring.. Perhaps you'll have luck if you restore the factory setup.
