I am trying to program a new fob for my mazda2 2004 DY. I do not have original fobs and just have the keys. I ordered a key fob from ebay (link below) and tried to program it, but after the vehicle enters programming mode, key press doesn't do anything. Looks like am missing something.
I have found that Remote Access is not a standard feature on some models, like the DY Neo.
I could put my 2004 DY Neo into “Program Mode” by switching the ignition on/off x 3 and closing/opening the drivers door x 3, and then see the door locks cycle. Unfortunately, the next step of pressing the Unlock button twice on the Remote Access Fob did nothing.
I had bought the Fob’s from Aliexpress for approx. $25AU each. They were to suit my DY mazda, and quoted model 41803.
Anyway, the “Door Lock Timer Unit” controls all this, and I found it way up under the dash on the RHS.
I removed the Timer Unit, and opened it up. It was obvious that some electronic components were missing, and there was a spot marked “Ant” for an antenna that had not been added.
Research indicated that the Door Lock Timer Unit from a Mazda 6, year 2002 to early 2005 was pin compatible with my 2004 DY. (The Mazda 6 uses a different wire colour scheme.)
In the hope that all Mazda 6’s came with Remote Access, I bought a second hand Door Lock Timer Unit from a wrecked 2002 Mazda 6 for $100AU. It was labeled as a “GJ6A675DZ”. All my research led me to expect it to say “GK2A675DZ”. I don’t know what the difference is between these two numbers, but it might be that one is for 315Mhz for USA & Japan, while the other is for 433Mhz to suit the rest of the world.
I opened up the second hand Mazda 6 Door Lock Timer Unit, and it had components soldered in that were missing on mine. It also had an antenna soldered onto the circuit board in 4 places.
A photo is attached.
The Mazda 6 Timer Unit plugged straight in. The only hard bit was laying on your back in the footwell. I was then able to put the car into Program Mode, and add both the Remote Access Fob’s I had bought from Aliexpress.
Success at last – very happy.
Now that I know what part number will work, I see them for much cheaper prices on the Internet.
