Question Headlights not working right

Hi, I am new here. I bought a 2011 Mazda 2 CS and I love it. It has a 5 speed which makes it really fun to drive.

I have an issue with my headlights and I am looking for some advice. When the lights are turned on the left light is on as it should be (low beam) and the passenger side headlight is on high beam. When I turn on the high beams the left one switches to high beam and the passenger side headlight turns off.

Since the socket for the passenger light is newer than the drivers side one I bought new light sockets. I thought it was simply wired wrong so I have tried different combinations of how the plug is wired (by hot wiring it off the headlight plug) and it doesn't help it either stays the same or doesn't work. I researched a bit and thought it might be the switch on the steering column so I bought one from a scrapyard and it didn't change anything. Now I am thinking it might be the BCM (Body Control Module) but after researching it I am seeing that I can not just swap that myself as it would have to be reprogrammed probably at the dealer.

If anyone has any insight as to what might help me I would love to hear it. I do not think that a regular shop can program these things so the dealer seems to be where I am headed and dealer prices scare me. Is it possible it could just be a reprogram or will I need a new BCM?

Thanks in advance for any help
