Very rough low idle and lunging forward
Hello everyone.
I did my first tune up on my 2002 Mazda Tribute LX V6 3.0 Liter. Some screws are missing but I will have that fixed tomorrow. I used NGK Iridium spark plugs and replaced the springs/coil/wire and the long rubber boot but not the whole coil pack. Put everything back and started it. As soon as I start it, the idle jumps up to 3000 rpms and s..l..o..w..l..y goes down and when it gets around 1000 rpm, my engine starts to heave like it's trying to get more of something and even sort of wants to jump forward. At high speeds, it's fine. It's just when the engine isn't being powered by my gas pedal that it starts to act crazy like this. Any ideas?
The idle air control valve is clean. (at least the part that goes into the engine cover)
Tributes computer has not been reset yet.

RE: Very rough low idle and lunging forward
I'm not a dumbass. It's been tuned up before. This is MY FIRST time doing it so I could save myself some money. There's nothing normal about a car wanting to lunge forward and idle rough after a fresh tune up. Even if it's 20 years old. I'm a novice and I could have told you that.

RE: Very rough low idle and lunging forward
I took my 02 Tribute into the dealer for a rough idle during a cold start. The check engine light was not displayed. Dealer reported crazy diag readings until engine warmed up. After warm, no problem. Turns out that upper and lower intake manifold gaskets needed to be replaced. The old gaskets were no longer providing needed seal. Was covered under ext warranty. Something to consider.
