Hi all, Mazda tribute 2004 owner here.

Car has started making a whirring/grinding noise on engine start and stop. Previously it only seemed to happen in hot weather, but for the last week it happens every on/off, no matter the temperature.

The sound lasts for about 15 seconds then stops and seems to be coming from in front of drivers side (right-hand drive), almost above my window-side knee. I can feel it grinding when i put my hand on the front fender.

Any idea what the noise is, if it’s serous and whether an amateur like myself can fix it?
