Default Transmission Mazda Tribute '05 V6

Hi since couple of days the gears are slipping off and the O/D light flashing.
I've been told by a mechanic it's a common problem as the filter inside the transmission get stuffed and is pretty expensive job to change the whole thing.
As I'm working 500km from home atm, does someone know if is possible to bypass the filter that cause the issue drilling a hole in it so I can drive back?

Unfortunately no and it wont be the filter anyway .

The only thing i could suggest if desperate is do a compete oil change in the auto ie: the flush method , there is info here how to do that , take a look at your fluid is it dark and smell , it should be clear/slight tinge of red and sweet smell .

It could also be the OD band has broken another common thing to happen it seems , and by slipping off do you mean not selecting at all ? , i think when the OD band broke 2nd also went out as not selected .

When starting from cold it engages the gear but after a while it slips out as stay in neutral.. no reverse, nothing.. after turning off and waiting will engage again but same story after few metres.
oil is ok, is the whole tranny gone as I've been told?

I'm not sure ok , best to have a look around on the interweb and here for those symptoms , i have seen them just don't recall so it happens .

Do some research , someone else might chime in too

It sure don't sound too good though imo , it ain't the filter that's fer sure .

edited - it should be throwing a code also , need a code reader .

I have had my car down for 6 mo..hesitation or delayed to engage..my brother is a mechanic in another state n right off the bat sd ..dirty filter..change trans fluid n filter..so I got materials n dropped pan but no filter..oops non serviceable..filter is inside..so moved on n car got worse..brother sd filter but can't get to it..everybody sd new trans..only code thrown was p2195..found that issue ..pcv hose n valve but meanwhile same issue..my description I kept saying was its not holding pressure..it has a lot to go then it's less than no moving forward..i barely get 1/2 mile. So I had the big daddy machine coder ran on my car..code P0732 2nd gear ratio..tgru all research I'm gonna change the solenoid pack n be hopeful..the fluid pressure is not holding so a sensor or solenoid is not communicating..if that dies not correct issue my next move us to drop tranny n open it up n change filter. Now..i have already changed fluid 3 times n ran gas thru n let sit for 24 hrs 2x. In hopes to clean filter so..i will be back to give results..inbetween all this I have replaced fuel filter ..fuel pump($12) valve cover gasket..plugs..cleaned coils..intake gaskets n cleaned intake manifold..air filter..gas cap n purge valve n only out $125..
