Default oil change frequency

The maintenance schedule for my 2006 tribute says to change the oil every 6months or 7500 miles. I have ALWAYS changed the oil and filter in my cars every 3 months or 3000 miles. Why the difference? How often should I perform this maintenance? Thanks in advance

Default RE: oil change frequency

Is the new vehicle expected to use a synthetic lubricant such as Mobil 1? My Cadillac has the same 7500 mile spec and is expecting only certain types of synthetics.

A lot of the newer vehicles have a longer service time for oil changes because of the improvements in both the oil and the engine manufacturing tolerances. The same life span improvements can be seen for antifreeze and spark plugs.
