hi, i have code P0430, in a mazda tribute 2001 V6 4WD, with a horrible fuel consumption, around 20mpg city and 18 highway, can be the front manifold catalyc converter or the upstream O2 ??? someone can help plz,

P0430 OBD-II Trouble Code
Technical DescriptionCatalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2)

What does that mean?Basically this means that the oxygen sensor downstream of the catalytic converter on bank 2 is detecting that the converter is not working as efficiently as it should be (according to specs). It is part of the vehicle emissions system.



SymptomsYou will likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms such as a rough/hard idle when cold.

Causes

A code P0430 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

The catalytic converter is no longer functioning properly
An oxygen sensor is not reading (functioning) properly
There is an exhaust leak

Possible Solutions

First, inspect for exhaust leaks.

Next step is to measure the voltage at the oxygen sensor on Bank 2. In fact, it would be a good idea to test each oxygen O2 sensor while you're at it.

One thing to note is that many vehicle manufacturers offer a longer warranty on emissions-related parts. So if you have a newer car but it's out of it's bumper-to-bumper warranty, there still may be warranty on this type of problem. Many manufacturers give a five year, unlimited mileage warranty on these items. It's worth checking into.

Try this: Pull the O2 sensors, clean them with carb cleaner & let them dry completely, then re-install.

FYI....Any Autozone can pull the full definition of the codes for you.

 

Are you sure that carb cleaner won't damage those 02 sensors? That's stuff can do a number on electronic parts.

 

That was what was recommended to me to use. Carb cleaner isn't as bad as brake cleaner (I think you're thinking of brake cleaner)

 

I have a 01 tribute v6 3.0 and it has gotton really bad on fuel i get about 270 to 300 km per tank of fuel now my engine light is on with the code p0430 but i couple of years ago i had the catalytic converter cut off because it was pluged up and everything was fine untill a couple of weeks ago my light came on and it is really really bad on fuel does anyone know what i could do to get my milage back to where it should be

please help me

 

destinyr - Your fuel consumption is normal. I get the same on full tank - city 250 to 300 kms, highway 450 to 500.
