I have a 05 mazda tribute 2.3 4 cyl and was wondering about the timing on it. I got it at TDC on compression stroke and commenced to taking it apart, harmonic balancer didn't exactly line up with hole in cover . It wasn't out of time. Must have blew head gasket because it filled the coolant with oil. So back to what I was saying, I took the harmonic balancer off with it out of line, did I just screw up?
