headlight bulb connection stuck
I am replacing the headliamp bulbs in the 2003 Mazda Tribute we bought for our 18-year old son. I have switched bulbs in other cars w/o issue. Removed bulb connection on driver side. It was an effort, but it came out & I completed the replacement
No corrosion, melting or damage visible - replaced & working.
Paasenger side: can't get past that 1st step. the connection is in there and won't come out. I upped the muscle, the men can't free it either. i tried a couple tugs with channel locks/pliers but i'm afraid of damaging something.
Question: can i carefully apply WD40? i'm aware of glass bulb sensitivity; not touching do to skin oils..etc... so,???
Other ideas or solutions??
*I am fairly adept in the diy world - good @ fixes around house, less experience w/ automotive stuff.

Mine (2001) lock on, a firm squeeze on the widest part and they come straight off. When you have it right you will feel the give as the 2 side tabs give and move slightly.
From the owner's manual:
Replacing headlamp bulbs
1. Make sure that the headlamp control is in the OFF position.
2. Open the hood.
3. Press two tabs and disconnect the electrical connector from the bulb.
