I totaled my 1997 B2300 and am now considering buying a loaded 2003 Mazda Tribute ES 2WD with 120k miles on the clock.


What should I look for?
What questions should I ask (private sale, original owner)?
Is this a reliable vehicle, considering the year model?

2.0 ltr? 2.3? V6?

Make sure it has a good svc history.
Check for panel & structural damage.
Look for oil & coolant leaks.

 

Don't pay too much. 2WD SUVs don't have a big market, at least in areas known for snow. Speaking of snow, watch for body rot from road salt in the snow belt areas.

Yes, they're as reliable as any used car, as long as they haven't been abused and have been properly maintained.

If you're serious, pay a mechanic you trust to look the car over thoroughly, and that advice goes for any used car.
