Default 2001 Tribute DX-V6 Oil leak

I'm having battery issues with my Tribute. I replaced a dead battery with a brand new 5 year batt. but it died over night. I think the problem is the alternator but it is a VERY difficult job to remove and replace that part. I have an oil leak somewhere on the engine and I think it has gummed up the alternator. Trouble is I can not pin down where the leak is coming from and don't want to go through all the trouble of putting in a new alternator just to have the oil leak mess it up right away. The oil filter and valve covers look clean and dry but I have oil all over the lower front of the engine compartment and down the passenger side of the engine and the oil pan. Could this be the oil pump or one of the main seals? What is the best way to locate an oil leak? Any help is appreciated, this car just turned into a nightmare of a headache overnight.

Fully degrease or steam clean the engine. Go for a drive & inspect afterwards.
