I get a burning smell through the vents (when they are open) after sustained high speed or high rev driving. Anyone know what I can do to stop this?

 

I know this is a month old.
Had you changed or spilled any oil about that time? Because of the filter location, a little oil will spill and that could be burning off.
I intermittently clean the engine bay at the car wash with the pressure hose. I leave the engine running while doing this.

 

I have the exact same problem. Nothing upon start up or shut down. No leaks of any kind on the ground. But, at operating temp., a strong burning oil/rubber smell comes through the air vents only and only when standing still - cannot be smelled outside the car, cannot be smelled while driving.

 

I just bought my 04 rx8 and noticed the same smell after lengthy drives(30 mins +). No signs of leak on driveway or in engine bay. How concerned should we be? Thanks.

 

I get the same thing too, I've read other forums and so many people claim the same thing too

 

could it be that when you add oil some oil gets on the uim? i done that once & had the same problems until i wiped all the oil off the uim. just a thought...
