Question K & n Typhoon CAI Mod?

Hi Guys,
I'm thinking of making a mod that will extend the factory air duct onto the opening of my k & n typhoon CAI. Do you think that will help or hinder things?

I rather doubt it will do anything except allow more dirt into your engine.

So connecting it to the factory inlet wouldn't require tuning?

What kind of tuning would you think it would require? The only thing you would be doing would be to replace the factory CAI with an aftermarket unit with an inferior air filter. You cannot tune for more dirt.

Nope; assuming all of the wiring and sensors are still intact, you should be good to go after making your change. Remember to change your oil more often as it will collect a lot of sand with a K&N filter in there.

Yeah, very serious; low restriction by definition means more dirt. If you go over to the BobIsTheOilGuy.com web site and look at the Used Oil Analysis results from folks who have switched to K&N filters; they always come back with elevated levels if silicone (sand) in the oil.

Never looked into the soho device.

Yeah, pretty much. If you have your engine dynoed before and after the installation you might find a few (as in three or four) extra horsepower up near redline at wide-open-throttle; that said, how often to you drive around with your engine up in that RPM range?
