Default RE: Whats the difference???

There's alot of differences between the turbo and non turbo engine and even more between the turbo and non turbo car.

Engine-
Turbo------------------------------Non-turbo
low compression rotors--------high compression rotors
4 ports---------------------------6 ports
turbo charger-------------------no turbocharger
top mounted intercooler--------no intercooler
different ECU--------------------differnet ECU(from turbo engine)
different wiring harness---------diff. wiring harness (from turbo engine)

car-
Turbo------------------------------Non-turbo
stiffer transmission---------------weaker transmission
wider diameter driveshaft-------longer thinner driveshaft
stronger half-shafts--------------weaker half shaftas
limited slip differential-----------open differential
2.5" diameter exhaust pipes----1.5" diameter exhaust pipes
16 x 7 inch wheels---------------14 x 5 or 15x 6 inch wheels depending on model
larger brake discs----------------smaller brake discs
better calipers--------------------weaker calipers
stiffer suspension----------------more comfortable but less responsive suspension (GXL has AAS)
aerodynamic mirrors(body clr)----black standard mirrors
aluminum hood w/ scoop---------steel flat hood
rear spoiler-------------------------no spoiler
twill weave interrior---------------cheaper cloth interrior
stiff racey buckets-----------------buckets w/ less support
160mph/ speedometer-----------140mp/h s[eedometer
boost guage------------------------voltometer

and some standard feature on the turbo that are options on non turbo Rx-7s (GXL shares the features)
-sunroof
-rear wiper
-plush carpeting
-rear storage bins
-power windows
-power mirrors

The Turbo has so much more to offer even if you exclude the luxerious features, making a non turbo Rx-7 perform like a turbo requires much more than just changing the engine (this requires new ECU, New wiring harness, new exhaust, and the turbo hood. This is assuming you buy the longblock turbo engine to put in, otherwise you would need more) you'd still want the transmission and rear end setup with Limited slip and such. It is much better to buy a turbo Rx-7 than to try and convert to one.
