if it's a 1989 then it's be a series 5. Reliability is as good as the owner(s).

Check for:
- flooding (turn car on, let it idle for a while, turn it off, then turn it on again [or try to] car should start the 2nd time)
- electrical system, try anything that uses power, windows, sunroof, radio(look for the power antennae to rise), lights(exterior and interior), A/C, heating, etc.
- look for rust on and under the car (rust on window trim or windshield wipers should not make or break a deal, ask them to lower their price because o fit, but these parts can be repalced)
-see if the headlights pop up
-ask for a recent DATED compression test result sheet, if not ask permission to take the car to get a test done (at a Mazda dealership)
-check that the gas door opens when you pull the release at the base of hte drivers seat
-ans ask about any other problems, ask to test drive the car, take it to redline, make sure she drives smooth, good gearbox, good clutch, brakes don't squak, etc.)

I believe all RX-7's use unleaded already.
