Exclamation The Restamped Mazda Rx7

The restamped Mazda rx7 model is truly a great mystery. Why did they do it, which model got it, how many were made and many other questions surround the mysterious stamp on the firewall of 1989 models released in early 1990.

Rumors of the restamped models have grown over the years with the popularity of the GTUs, leading many to believe it was specific to that model. The undocumented and unofficial claims of production numbers were created and spread over time slowly becoming truths.

Here is what we actually know about the restamped models:
In the last few months of 1989 Japan's motor division expanded and purchased larger facilities, more production models and a larger shipping export. They had recently purchased the new NEKSU for use in automotive transport.

The NEKSU is a Car carrier built in 1989 by SHIN KURUSHIMA HIROSHIMA DOCKYARD - HIGASHIHIROSHIMA, JAPAN. It's gross tonnage is 2100 tons. Its max load capacity of automotive cargo is around 50 units or 80 tons.
This automotive carrier departed late under delivery delays from Japan carrying an assortment of models ranging from the GXL, Turbo II, GTU and the famous GTUs.

All of these models arriving late into the states were restamped and resold with the new years date and an authentic dealer stamp authorizing the change.

If you have pictures of restamped models please post them, they are a unique piece of Mazda's history!
