I was just given an 87 GXL. It has 206,000 miles on it. It runs good and smooth but idles around 1500. Im good with carbs but not fuel injections. I cant seem to find an idle screw on this puppy. The cars in good shape just needs A LOT of TLC. Ill see if I can figure out how to post some pics.

On top of the upper air intake manifold there's an idle air adjust screw. It might have a rubber cap on it. pull it off and you should be able to adjust the idle down a bit.

I found the screw but it's cranked down as low at it'll get. The wierd thing is that the rpms will increase the longer I keep it in neutral. It'll start off at 1300 and will slowly increase to 1800 after about five minutes.

Could the TPS (Throttle Position Switch) be going bad, RB?

I tried to post yesterday but the site wouldn't let me. I don't know that that TPS would be bad. I'm no expert on setting them, testing or adjusting them. A friend of mine adjusted my tps screw by ear and got my car idling after a rebuild. Prob not the best way to do it but you might try adjusting it to see if it helps. It's on the front part of the throttle body.

I believe it has a spring attached to the screw to help you find it

Yeah I have the Haynes as well. It's good for reference but they leave out a lot.

Can anyone take a pic of this TPS adjustment screw? I tested the TPS switch and it functions when I remove the two 10mm bolts. When the button goes all the way it reacts.

The TPS can be out of adjustment. You cannot just adjust it by turning the screw. There is a tool that is needed to ensure that the TPS is within range. I will get the name of the tool (it has 2 lights that lets you know when the TPS is within & out of range).
