Smile When to change timing belt?

Have a 2002 Protege with alomost 58,500 miles and curious when others have replaced the timing belt. The Manual says to inspect the belt @60k (?) and curious of cost and if worth inspecting now or just replacing the belt before it gets to 100k. Anyone had a problem with the belt going before 100k?

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Default Change it at 60k

I had mine changed when the dealer replaced my water pump at about 60k. The cost was only about $100 but if they had to take everything off it probably would have been about $500. I would have them replace it if they inspect it, since they will have to do the labor of pulling off the cover to check it. I have heard horror stories of shattered valves when they break, but that would depend on the compression of the engine (which im guessing isn't much). I'd rather pay it now than pay it and a tow later.
