I'm getting a used car and am looking at a 2003 protege LX. It has high mileage (105,000) but still, it's $4850 asking price seems significantly lower than it should be. It's from a fairly reputeable dealer, yet I am suspicious. Any advice on what's going on here?

 

I would think the dealer is compensating for the mileage. The car may have been sitting on the lot for a long time and needs to go. See if the dealer will let you have it inspected by a tech of your choice.

 

I thought you might find it interesting that I took your advice and scheduled an inspection. As I was about to take the car in to the mechanic the manager bursts in and suddenly the car is $6850. Because, whoops, the ad in the paper was a misprint.
Sheesh.
I just left.

 

Almost sounds like a bait and switch tactic. There will always be a good deal again.
