Alternator gave up the ghost and stopped charging batt. Naturally , at the worst possible time, car full of kids at, gulp, Walmart . Thanks for friends with jumper cables!!! Able to get car home, car ran off battery to get home. I replaced alternator (fun stuff) . The good news is no more whirring noise and zoom zoom!!!!!
