Hello there, i have an 02 mazda protege lx 2.0 and the other day it droped dead! i shifted into 4th down a hill and there was a corner at the bottom so i put it into 3rd and went i let the clutch out i slowly came to a stop and stalled. i tried a minute later to start it in N and once again when i let the clutch out i stalled. i got towed home and just took a look at it. I was origianlly thinking maybe my shifter linkage but as far as i could tell nothing was broken and there was no obvious damage. i can kind of limp it around by putting it in 3rd gear but no other gear will work. i know this isnt really a mazda question but this was the only place i could think to post it. if anyone knows anything about this sort of thing would be greatly appriciated thanks

 

on an automatic i would tell you to check the gear selector sensor on the tranny there easy to check/change but in your cause with a standard i don't even think they have those... if they do check that. when the car is running can you move the shifter freely between the gears with the clutch in? or are they not clicking in?
