Default Throttle Position Switch?

Bought a 95 Mazda Protege LX 1.5 A few days ago. Love this Car!!!!

Went to learn to drive a manual for the first time, and the check engine light came on after 5-6 stalls and quite a bit of reving the engine (but i dont belive i ever went into the danger zone "7000-8000 RPMS")

Went to auto zone and got it tested, and I think i Belive he said the code came up for the Switch, and not a sensor, but ive been searching for a switch for days now and there not available anywhere.....after he had gone into the store to check the price, he gave the the Sensor price, because the switch wasnt available to him either. Is there not even a switch and only a sensor? The idle jumps around, which it did not before the light came on, and its a bit jumpier, but I am only learning so im not to great on telling the differnce.

Default RE: Throttle Position Switch?

It is called a throttle position sensor. A switch usually means an on/off device. This sensor reads where the throttle plate is (how far the gas pedal is pressed). It can read from idle to wide open throttle and everything in between so the engine computer can compensate.

It would be more helpful to know the code that was retrieved if you know it.
