Taillights on 1991 Protege DX Blowing Fuses
Sorry for the lenghty explanation.
The other day I realized the taillight fuse was popping in my fuse block. There is no delay, the fuse blowsin aninstant.I have recently had a deck installed by Best Buyand I wired an amp for subs in the back. However I ran the wires down the passenger side. I believe the wires for the taillights are on the driver side. When I turn the taillight switch on it also turns off the radio and it does not effect anything else. I have currently have a relay installed but it keeps switching off and turning the radio off.All other lights on the car work including brake lights. My father and I have both checked the interior of the rockers for pinches or frays in the wires but have found nothing. I have dealt with a similar problem before but not with this car and my attempts to repair have failed. I haven't touched any wires passed the fuse block so my father seems to think the problem is under the dash. I am at a stand stil right now becuase I work nights and I cannot drive the car to work, as you can see this is causing probles for me. I did search the forum but found nothing in regards to this matter.
I am going to look at it again tomorrow but not sure if I will be able to fix it.
Is there anyone who has read this that has had a similar problem or knows how to fix it? Any help would be much appreciated. I would love to have my car back. Your time is appreciated.

Your dashboard illumination lights are also going out along with the exterior running lights yes??
I would suspect the problem is probably under the dash as well kennmonster. If all of the began to occur after the deck was installed by Best Buy, that would be the suspect area. If you are able to get back into the rear of the deck where the wiring is spliced in then find out what was done with the wire in the dash radio harness that is Red with a Black stripe. This wire also is fused by the TAIL fuse and originally provided nightime illumination of the OE sterea when the lights were turned on. Would bet that it has either been spliced into a circuit thatit should not have been or was left hanging loose and is now solidly shorted out to a metal part of the dash frame.

Yes you were exactly right, the problem was defintely the stereo. I took the car into Best Buytoday and explained the problem to the supervising installerand he fixed in minutes. I believe that he spliced into the wrong wire for power and this was casuing the fuse to blow. Thank you for your reply. I am glad it's back to normal.
And yes the dashboard lights were also not working.
