Default Stretch a new belt - how to

I don't know about you folks, but when I replaced the previous belts they were just a bit too short and would just barely not slip over the pulley ( I have since used Gatorbacks and they fit fine). I found a way to stretch a new belt. My car came with a non-Mazda scissor jack. I don't know what comes with the Mazda but most cars have a scissor jack now. I cranked the scissors jack to just fit the new belt loosely with the belt going over the top of the jack and under the bottom. I then cranked the jack to stretch the belt and let it sit for about 15 minutes. When I took it off the jack it fit easily on the pulleys. I think the way they package the belts bending them causes the problem but I did get a new belt that I measured and it was shorter than specs and I took it back and got another that was a bit longer but I still had to use the jack to stretch it. The problem is many people use a screw driver to try and pry the belt on the pulleys, they scratch the pulley, then you get the famous belt squeal.
