Snapped timing belt. 2002 protege 5
This is my 1st post looking for help. So the timing belt broke on my car. Talked to garage maybe $1600 to fix or find a used engine for like $800 and have him do that. These engines seem hard to come by also. It's a 2002 just around 150000 miles with standard transmission. Thanks guys for any help.

This engine should be non-interference BUT I have read otherwise.......... The Mazda F family of engines are all non-interference so there should be no damage to pistons or valves, all you should need is a new belt and adjuster and it should fire right up. BUT..big but here, BUT the FS is not closely related to the F family of engines, its a spinoff really, I will do some more research on it.

Ok according to Mazda's website on the 626 (which used the same engine) its a non-interference engine. Mazda Vehicle FAQ - MAZDA 626 - Mazda USA
