Recommended timing belt replacement at 105K
Guys, is this true or am I being ripped off?

The reply is totally correct.
As long as you don't mind getting stranded on the side of the road at some point, you can let it go until it breaks (if indeed your engine isn't an interference engine.)
An interference engine is one that if the timing between the valves/pistons gets out of sync (i.e. broken belt), then the piston can contact the valves causing severe engine damage.
In a non-interference engine, should the belt fail, all that happens is that the valves stop functioning and your car suddenly dies as no fuel/air can go into/out of the combustion chamber.
