Default Protege5 error code

I have an 02 Protege5 that was giving me an error code of p0421 and I replaced the O2 sensors. The error code came back after a couple hundred miles and I have been clearing the codes for awhile. Now it is giving me a p0300 code and misses at highway speeds. Shuting the engine off and restarting seems to stop the missing, but the light is still on. Bad egr? Does cleaning the egr valve work and how is it done?
Thanks
