The automatic transmission in myProtege5 is starting to shift hard and slip in second gear.A local shop advised against replacing the fluid, saying removingthe built-up particles would cause the transmission not to work at all.

Is this true as well for changing the filter? Is there a filter that can be changed? I really don't have the budget for a rebuild or replacement of the transmission.
