Default Power lock on driver side making noise

All power locks work with the button except the driver side. you can hear the motor make a weird sound, lasts about 1 sec, like it is trying to unlock but isn't able to. you can manually lock and unlock the door via key. any ideas on what to replace?

Default same thing!

I have the exact same problem with my driver door on my 01 Protege ES. Weird noise, no unlocking. Other doors work fine and don't make the noise. I took the door panel off but couldn't see very well as to what is the problem. I can't tell if the actuator is broken, or if there is something that isn't connecting right.

Any help would be appreciated!

i would say the lock actuator is stuck, i would suggest trouble shooting the actuator such as taking the door panel off checking voltages and seeing if the actuator can be moved manually.

yea i did the same thing. the position of the actuator makes it kind of hard to work on. i am going totry and take it out. i can see the rod that goes to the manual lock on the door move when i push and pull the lock, its just when i press the electronic lock button that no movement happens. how hard is it to take the actuator out and replace it? also, the actuator is in fact that piece where the manual lock rod connects- right?

The actuator is the black piece that is connected to the rod. It shouldnt be to hard to replace. Here's a pic of what the actuator looks like.

Have the same problem with the actuator, drivers side makes a clicking sound but doesn't function except manually . took the 2000 protege LS to Merchant tires they could only get the entire door lock assembly at $230 plus 2 plus hrs. labor. How do I identify the actuator .does anyone have a picture or source for only the needed part?
