um, i think the best way for the beginner is too do a Cold Air Intake, Headers, and Exhaust...
after that, i'd go with lightening up your car, ie, lighter wheels,
then, id say maybe engine internals...
and if you REALLY want more power, i'd go with a turbocharger.
but my first suggestion is the cheapest way to go, and the turbocharger is the most expensive....

i haven't done anything yet im planning on buy short ram intake but i've been told it would work better than cold air also my car is a 1998 and i've found intakes, exaust systems but i cant find headers any where i think i'll have to get them made thats my last choice. I want to get an intake then headers and then an exaust system i was told to get headers before i do my exaust

Short ram and cold air work almost the same, the only thing different is that the cold air blows cold air (which your car wants), and the short ram doesnt... Short ram uses the air that it can reach, like the hot air under your hood.... Depends how the climate is where you live.. if you live in a hot weather environment, then use cold air, if the weather is relatively cold, just go with a short ram... i guess..... lol

But if you're going for a boosted car, i think you should beef up the engine internals first if you wanna runHIGH boost... i dont thing that protege's arent meant to go super fast... ...unless you build it properly..

Going turbo and staying NA is two totally different paths, and require some different mods.. Are you trying to slap a turbo on? or just staying naturally aspirated?

Peace,
RJ
