Default Peformance Upgrades for Early Model Proteges

I have noticed that there are very few bolt on performance upgrades for the Protege. Iown a 1991 Protege DX with the 1.8L SOHC. I have bought a K&N air filter and am now considering exhaust. I have my sights on either a Tuner or Race series exhaust and a high flow cat from Magnaflow. Is there anybody running these muffler and cat combos? I am curious to hear them because I do not like the high pitch sound like 90% of Hondas with fart pipes. Further, is there any upgradepartsfor these engines?

Not much available for those old cars. Because there aren't many people willing $1000 on an exhaust for a $1500 car. The experience I have had with sport exhaust is that unless you replace everything from the header back, you are just throwing cash away. How long do you plan on keeping this car? That will be the answer to how much money you want to put into it. 90% of the guys that think they have sport exhausts either have just got a Sport Muffler or Changed from the CAT back. They sound that way beacuse they are starved for flow from the small exhaust manifold. Plus, you've got a SOHC, so there is going to be alot of exhaust pressure anyway, plus, it's a 17 year old car, so you don't have the cylinder compression of a new car, so it's going to sound kinda lame. Save your money so you can buy a MAZDASPEED 6......

I am hoping to get another year out of the car. If I get more, bonus. It has 235,000km on it still runs well and has very little rust. I may just completely avoid exhaust then. Is there not a company that makes an after market exhaust manifold? Wierd.
