motor and transmission type

I was just wondering what tpye of motor is in the mazda protege?

depends on the year and trim package. my 02 pro5 has a 2.0L dohc 4 cylinder. the engine code is fs-de. i believe any of the protege's 02 and up are the same motor, but before then the motor varies.
