Default Mazda loses power on hills

[&o]Help, info needed. Two questions-
1) My 99 Mazda Protege loses power on hills and will buck at times when accelerating to go in general. Last time this happened I believed they cleaned my mass airflow sensor or master air flow meter(seemed to have lost my record of what was done),but I am pretty sure that is what the mechanic said. Any other suggestions or input, can I clean it myself?
2) My inner release latch for the trunk seems to have stopped working. I loaded a big chair in my trunk and may have hit something, does anyone know details on what i might havedone to stop trunk release and how to undo it?

It is easy to clean, just remove it and spray the hotwire with contact cleaner. Most trunk latchs have a lockout for the trunk for valet parking. A small lever on the latch.
