I have a 1.6L 2000 Mazda Protege which I am having problems with. When accelerating, the engine is extremely noisey, especially at speeds 40 mph or less. The CEL was on for a while until I found this site and read through the posts. I just cleaned out my throttle body and sprayed cleaner on my MAF sensor and EGR sensor. After doing that, the CEL went away but the noise is still there. It also has lost some pickup since this problem happened. What are some other things that I should check? Thanks!

 

check for an exhaust leak. all that you have to look for is black sut on the exhaust somewhere.
