IM wondering where to start on my 1991 LX fwd 1.8l dohc Automatic
with performance mods I just gave it a full tune up and all fluids change?????


Any Ideas

 

Unless you're planning on spending big money (including a bunch to upgrade your transmission), don't expect any significant gains for your car. Said another way, the cost of the upgrades for any meaningful performance gain will most likely be more than your car is worth.

 

'Hate to admit it, but shipo is right. Bolt-ons will do nothing/almost nothing except reduce low-end torque, which in your car is in short supply anyway.
You would have to add boost (turbo/supercharger) to get anything significant. And you would have to built the bottom end to support the boost or the rods will be coming through the side of the block.
Then, because its an automatic, anything over about 200hp would destroy the tranny in short order.

Yeah. I know. Sorry 'bout that. We are not trying to be disappointing, but you really have to be dedicated to the car, and I hate seeing people waste their hard earned money on stuff that makes no difference... or in the wrong direction. I know I have in the name of trial and error.

Y'know, I have driven underpowered cars for most of my life, and when performance gains in the form of horse power aren't possible, I have found it more satisfying to concentrate on the suspension and brakes of the car. It may still take a while to get to speed, but you will have to slow down less often.
Reducing weight is another way to improve performance. Lighter wheels and tires, removing all unneeded stuff that collects in the interior. Removing anything that you don't regularly use or need.

 

i was just wondering im not worried i have a muscle car from 1973 so i have all the Real HP i want i was just wondering if a cai or exhaust upgrade bennifits Thanks everyone for the reply's!!
